Blitz The Town

Onward!  Missionary Work won't be thwarted!
A jet flew overhead as the picture was taken.

Dear Family and friends!!!

Hey you all!!!!! I mean ya'll no wait yinz... you's guys? Youinz! Ugh. It's like the primary song "Feliz Cumpleaños" it all means the same thing.  So, I have a joke... What do the people of Pennsylvania and the steel (they call them "still") mills have in common?  Smoking- they both shop at the same store.  I'm a comedian if you haven't noticed.  There really is a haze in the air around Pittsburgh.  Captain Planet should be furious!

In Butler, there is an area called "the island."  It may sound like paradise but it's not.  It's where everyone does heroin.  Haven't found any needles yet.  We don't go to the island too often.

So Joe did come to church and he's WAY excited to be baptized.  He's living all the commandments.  We just have to teach him all the lessons so he can be baptized.  We are going to teach him the rest of lesson 5 on the basics so he can understand exactly what it is that he needs to in order to be baptized. We saw him a couple of times this week and he has come such a far way from when we first met him.  He wouldn't even pray at first but now he says his prayers on his own. :)  At first, he couldn't understand the Book of Mormon but now he knows Laman and Lemuel are the bad guys and Nephi is the good guy.  We had a cool experience with Joe... We've been overcomplicating what and how we teach.  We realized that what he needs is just to be taught 2 simple truths and that we should just focus on those.  So for example we were teaching him about tithing and we talked about it for about 30 minutes (way too complicated).  So the next time we saw him we handed him the pamphlet with the definition and bullet points highlighted.  That really helped him to simply understand the principle and what tithing is used for and he was able to tell us more about tithing than anything we taught from the previous 30 minute lesson.  It was an eye opening experience for me.  And of course, he came to church!!!!!!
Teaching Sara (Sis. Hook joined us)
We got to see Sara on Saturday night.  She came to the church game board fun night and she really enjoyed it.  We played Uno together.  She wasn't to into winning; she just was there to have fun.  She kept track of her little boy, Micah, who is 2 years old.  He was sooo cute- he hugged all the other kids there and wanted to play with them. She wasn't able to come to church because she got sick.  However, we had a lesson afterward and it was so great. Sister Hook, a member that was teaching with us, helped Sara to understand that she can't get upset every time her child cries  (Sara kinda panics when Micah cries.)  Sis. Hook was so inspired!!!!!

We saw our good friend Brother Engel and we talked about temples (remember his wife has recently passed away and it's been tough for him). He doesn't know too much about the LDS church but he knows it's true (he is a less active member of the church).  He told us that he would love to go to the temple but that it is hard for him to quit some his addictions.  We told him that he could be able to be sealed to his wife for eternity and that we knew it was possible to overcome his addictions and work toward doing the things he needs to do to be to enter the temple.  He immediately changed his attitude and told us he wants to work toward becoming worthy to attend the temple.  He wants to change and give up those things now! That was very special! I'll remember that for sure.

Freaky Friday
Zach- served in NM near Roswell
So after we did service at the Lighthouse on Friday, we went to Pizza Hut.  We met this guy and he asked us if we were missionaries.  He told us he was a member and that he served a mission in New Mexico near Roswell.  What the heck? FREAKY!?!?!  He said he was traveling through Butler and stopped for lunch.  We shared crazy mission stories- it was a good talk.  At then end of lunch as we were going to pay the bill, the waitress informed us the bill had already been paid by the man who had served a mission in NM!  We were all sooo grateful for him and told him thank you.  I asked if we could take a picture with him and told him I would write about him in my weekly email to my parents.  His name was Zach and he is currently living in Salt Lake City.

Greg
So we helped this man move his parents' items into a storage unit.  Elder Ross and I really connected with him and he asked us to come back anytime and talk with him.  I was on a blitz  (both of the Zone Leaders come to your area and work in it with you and your companion).  I was working with a Zone Leader and Elder Ross was with the other ZL.  The ZL and I stopped by to talk to Greg.  We began talking to him about how God loves him and how he can be forgiven of his sins.  Greg begins to cry.  He gives us each a big hug and told us to give him a call when we want to come back over.  Miracles happen. God exists.  It's cool follow Christ.
Love you.  Take care. Bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
